What Is The Difference Between An NVQ and VRQ?

NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) VRQs (Vocational Related Qualification) are fully recognised for insurance and within the hair & beauty industry.

NVQ

  • A work-based hands-on qualification that focuses on employment skills.
  • A collection of units which, when completed, gives you the full complement of skills required to work in the beauty industry.
  • Achievement of all units makes you competent or ‘work ready’ for your new beauty career.

VRQ

  • Similar to an NVQ in that it is work related and practical and focuses on developing your employment skills.
  • Apply to a specific subject within that industry.
  • Great as a ‘preparation for work’ qualification.

How Long Is The Course?
The courses vary in length, depending on what is being studied. We offer enough tuition in order for learners to be competent.
What's The Difference Between Your Courses and Ones At The Local College?
We provide short, intensive training courses. We work with very small numbers in each training group (maximum 10 learners per tutor) to provide a more student focused learning environment.
When Do The Courses Start?
Unlike many training centres, our start dates are flexible and courses run throughout the year. Please contact us for our next available dates.
Do You Run Any Weekend or Evening Courses?
Most of the practical sessions are weekdays, 9am-5pm however we do run some evening courses. We do not have any practical sessions scheduled for weekends.
Are There Any Entry Requirements?
We welcome applications from learners of all ages (minimum 16) and levels of experience and academic backgrounds. If you’re concerned that you may have difficulties please feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you. All training is conducted in English, therefore a proficiency of speaking, reading and writing in English is necessary.
What Are Your Class Sizes?
We keep our class sizes small (maximum of 10) to ensure a quality learning experience.
What Qualifications Do Your Tutors Have?
All of our tutors are qualified in the subjects they teach (to a minimum of Level 3) with extensive experience of working within the industry. All hold recognised teaching and assessor qualifications and many have Internal Verifier/IQA qualifications as well. Our tutor’s complete continual professional development (CPD), ensuring you are kept up-to-date with the latest information and developments in the industry.
Do I Need To Wear A Uniform?
Yes, all trainee therapists are required to wear a uniform.  A black or navy tunic and trousers with plain black or navy socks or natural pop socks should be worn with enclosed, flat, plain black or navy shoes.
Are There Any Exams?
You will compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate how you have covered the practical skills you have learnt and you will also be practically assessed to demonstrate competence at the end of the course. You will also complete written questions to assess knowledge and understanding.
Will I Need To Bring Models?
All learners are required to give and receive treatments on training days as it is very beneficial for learners to experience the treatments they will be performing first-hand. You will however need to provide a model for all practical assessments.
