A Career in
Beauty Therapy
When considering a career in Beauty Therapy it is extremely important to consider the qualifications that are needed in order to become a professional beauty therapist. The Government are putting more emphasis now on vocational education and the importance of gaining a recognised qualification. More than ever before, well trained and well qualified therapists are in demand in the workplace.

At the Brentwood Academy we offer Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) Qualifications. VTCT issues National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and SVQs along with International Awards and has three subsidiary awarding bodies; International Health and Beauty Council (IHBC), International Institute of Health & Holistic Therapies (IIHHT) and International Institute of Sports Therapy (IIST). VTCT is the major awarding body in the UK for S/NVQs in Beauty Therapy and has been established for over 40 years.
Upon successful completion of the course a VTCT diploma is awarded entitling the therapist to apply for insurance and membership to any of the following professional bodies:-
- The Federation of Holistic Therapists
- The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology
- The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists
A good level of general education is required with the student being prepared to undertake periods of home study. Our courses are open to all age groups with a minimum age of 16. There may be funding available for those students under the age of 19. Please telephone for further details. At the Brentwood Academy, we are proud of our excellent success rate particularly with mature students who may not have studied for some time.
The Academy provides most equipment needed such as towels, Dermalogica skin care, make-up, wax pots etc. However the student will need to purchase a kit of equipment which they will bring into college with them each week for their own use. Students will also be expected to purchase a uniform.
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques can be achieved by attending our intensive two-day a week course over a period of 15 weeks. For students in full time employment the Evening Beauty Specialist course may be an option. This commences each year in September.
The VTCT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Beauty Therapy is an ideal course to follow onto after completing the level 2 course. This course is also suitable for those currently employed in the beauty industry who wish to further their career potential. |
